Fountain-Fort Carson Schools Superintendent Dwight Jones was named Colorado’s new commissioner of education today.
Jones, 44, was the sole finalist in a two-month search for a replacement for William Moloney, who is resigning.
Under Jones, who became superintendent of the 6,100-student El Paso County district in 2003, Fountain-Fort Carson’s graduation rates have increased and achievement gaps have closed in some grades. Jones will be the first African-American to hold the post of education commissioner.
