Even in boyhood, Nick Palmer showed the discipline and motivation of a leader, said his father, Brad Palmer, who coached him during the four years Nick played for the Lake County High School football team.
“We were going camping at Cottonwood, over by Taylor Reservoir. Me and the boys had the truck, and dropped all the gear off. Rachele (his wife) was still working. They were 10 and 14 at the time. I left the two boys by themselves, picked up Rachele, and went back to Cottonwood Canyon. We were talking about how we had to set up camp when we got there.
“We pull up to the site there, and they had both tents pitched. Our tent and their tent. The cover for the cook area all stretched out. They had a fire going, and they were cooking dinner themselves.”
