DENVER-

Oops! Race officials plan to recheck the Colfax Marathon course Saturday to see if runners really put in an extra half mile.

Justin Mock, 25, of Boulder, who won the race last Sunday, said it felt a little longer than the usual 26.2-mile race.

After hearing from Mock and other runners, officials Friday said they decided to remeasure the course to see if a mistake made in City Park added a half mile.

“The certifiers are coming back in Saturday,” race director Mike Collins said. “We will remeasure it, we will recalculate, and if it’s (wrong), they will receive revised times based on their (true) pace per mile. That will be their certified official results.”

The marathon, in its second year, is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, which has agreed to accept qualifying times adjusted for any discrepancy found in the remeasurement..

“We will have all this done and everybody informed by next Tuesday or Wednesday,” Collins said.
