In a double-dip day in the motorsports world Sunday, rain put a damper on the Indianapolis 500 twice, causing three hours of delays. Scotsman Dario Franchitti was declared the victor after a second storm scuttled the race 85 miles short of 500.
In the nightcap at Concord, N.C., Casey Mears got his first Nextel Cup victory, winning the Coca-Cola 600 after a gamble on fuel paid off. Mears took the lead when Tony Stewart headed to pit road for a splash of gas, and Mears stayed on the track on the way to claiming the checkered flag. He ran out of gas moments after crossing the finish line.
