A former Arvada volunteer firefighter led a neighbor to safety Tuesday after a fire broke out in a garage in the 7000 block of Welch Court.
Trevor Byrne, who lives behind the affected house, was home at about 4 p.m. when he noticed smoke. At first, Bryne thought someone had started a barbecue, but the smoke intensified so he walked over to investigate.
Bryne said he saw the fire and started ringing the doorbell. “I could see that the door was cracked open but no one was answering,” he said. “When I went in to yell for someone, she was standing right inside the door,” he said.
Arvada fire officials said fire damage was limited to the garage. The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause.
