Elvira’s good for people-watching
An exotic day trip from Tucson is the perfect place to people-watch, drink a cold beer and pick up those blue-rimmed iced tea glasses. Elvira’s is like a tropical jungle without the wildlife but with attentive service. The food – burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas and the best mole ever – makes up for the view of the border wall and comes with complimentary shots of tequila . Elvira’s Restaurant, Av. Obregon No. 1, 520-980-0805

Sierra Sue’s BBQ worth the drive
It doesn’t look like much on the way to Saguaro National Park on the west side of Tucson, but Sierra Sue’s BBQ is even worth a special trip – meats slow-smoked overnight for a deep flavor, with just enough sauce to keep the meat wet (and more on the table). Don’t miss the homemade corn dog and the beef (or pork) and cheddar sandwich. Sierra Sue’s BBQ, 6691 Sandario Road, 520-400-0695
