An Arvada elementary school caught on fire during the night, causing the last day of school this year to be canceled.
Weber Elementary School on West 81st Avenue was shut down today because of heavy damage from heat, smoke and water.
Arvada firefighters received a fire alarm from the school at 4:50 a.m.. When they arrived, flames were showing so a second alarm was sounded immediately, bringing a total of eight trucks to the scene.
Firefighters contained the blaze quickly and declared it under control an hour later. After searching the building for hidden flames and hot spots, they declared the fire out.
No injuries were reported. The school was vacant when the fire started. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, said spokesman Scott Pribble.
