Washington – U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar told Bob Schieffer that the country needs a comprehensive immigration plan when the Colorado Democrat appeared on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday.
“This is a national security issue, it’s something that cries out for solution, and we need to do it now,” he said.
Salazar defended the immigration reform bill that would create a guest-worker program that could lead to permanent legal status for some.
A CBS News/New York Times poll that said 67 percent of Americans believe illegal immigrants should be allowed to apply for a visa and 66 percent support a guest-worker program.
Salazar remained confident that the bill would pass “because this is one of the most fundamentally important issues for America today.”
