One of three open seats on City Council is still too close to call as early returns from Denver’s runoff election came in this evening.

Carla Madison has 52 percent of the vote in District 8 over Sharon Bailey, who has 48 percent.

The two candidates are separated by 170 votes.

Chris Nevitt and Paul Lopez have comfortable leads in Districts 7 and 3 respectively – each with more than 60 percent of the early vote.

The other 10 council seats were all won by incumbents in the May 1 general election. But each of the districts without an incumbent needed Tuesday’s runoff election to decide the winner.

Denver election laws require elected officials to win more that 50 percent of the vote before taking office.
