A VOTE FOR LOOKY-LOOS:

Volunteers from the Colorado Historical Society are leading free tours of the Governor’s Mansion at 400 E. Eighth Ave. (at Logan Street) 1-3 p.m. every Tuesday this summer. The stately house was built in 1908 by the Cheesman family and later purchased by the Boettcher family before becoming Colorado state property. Several rooms of this home currently occupied by Gov. Bill Ritter and his family feature collectible antiques and historic political memorabilia. Call 303-866-3682 for information.

AN OFFICER AND A GENTLE HOUSE:

Lowry’s historic Commander’s Home is up for sale. The 3,500-square-foot, Spanish-style residence completed in 1904 sits on 21,000-square-feet of landscaped property and originally housed the superintendent of the Air Force’s Agnes C. Phipps Memorial Sanatorium, a tuberculosis hospital. The home later became the Lowry Officer’s Club. The public can tour the house from 1 to 4 p.m. every Sunday in June. The property will be sold through a sealed bidding process. Bids are due on June 29.

SWEDISH GOES WESTERN:

IKEA laid roots in our region last month when it opened a store in Draper, Utah – roughly an eight-hour drive from Denver. The international home store known for stylish, functional and reasonably priced furniture launched its 310,000-square-foot outpost with plenty of fanfare, including appearances from regional dignitaries, a Swedish log-sawing ceremony, cash giveaways, and Swedish meatballs. Among the store features: an IKEA restaurant and several children’s play areas. This is the 30th IKEA store in the country and the 255th in the world.
