A Kansas man was rescued early this morning after spending the night on a rocky crag high in Clear Creek Canyon, west of Golden.

The man was identified as David Seals, 34, of Topeka, Kan. He was in good condition and was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital, where he is expected to be treated and released today, according to the hospital.

Seals was hiking with two friends when he apparently tripped around 3 p.m. Monday, injuring his ankle. His friends gave him supplies, then used a global-positioning device to hike out of the area and call authorities.

Rescuers reached Seals around 1:30 this morning. They got him off the rugged, steep mountain just before 9 a.m. Rain fell through the night, hampering the rescue effort.

U.S. 6 was closed during the night between Golden and the Colorado 119 exit to Black Hawk. The rescue took place just west of Tunnel No. 1, about 3 miles west of Golden.
