Hatchery loss
The Division of Wildlife has reported a loss of approximately 50,000 catchable-sized trout at its Durango hatchery.
These 10-inch trout died Sunday when a seasonal worker neglected to reopen a water valve that had been closed for routine cleaning. An additional 34,000 fish in the raceway survived the incident. Officials project no significant disruption in stocking schedules, because trout can be transferred from surplus stocks at other locations.
Basalt range closure
Construction work has prompted the closure of the shooting range at the Basalt State Wildlife Area through June 25. Daily work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shooters will be allowed use of the range from 5 p.m. until dusk.
