PENROSE, Colo.—A Penrose woman was killed Wednesday when the car she was driving slammed head-on into a cement mixer west of Canon City, authorities said.
Deana M. Brackin, 44, was eastbound on U.S. 50 in a Volkswagen Scirocco about 10 a.m. when investigators said her vehicle crossed the double-yellow centerline and hit the Kenworth cement truck.
The car then spun around nearly twice before coming to rest in the middle of the westbound lanes.
Brackin was transported by ambulance to St. Thomas Moore Hospital in Canon City, where she was pronounced dead.
The cement truck driver, Jerry Copher, 64, of Pueblo West, was not hurt.
The Colorado State Patrol said both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Toxicology tests were pending as the investigation continued.
