COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A panel reviewing where to hold the state Democratic Party convention next year has recommended Colorado Springs, a city with two registered Republicans for every Democrat.
The site-selection committee unanimously chose the World Arena in Colorado Springs on Wednesday over Broomfield. The party’s executive committee was expected to ratify the recommendation next month.
“Part of what we’re saying is that there is no territory that we concede to the Republicans,” said Pat Waak, chairwoman of the Colorado Democratic Party. “We know there are Dems in every county.”
The state convention was expected to draw 6,500 people.
State Republicans will hold their 2008 convention in Broomfield—which they chose over Colorado Springs, GOP state party chairman Dick Wadhams said.
