Certify your big-game trophy

Hunters who bring their big-game trophies to a special June 23 judging event at Bass Pro Shops will have their trophies certified for a precise score by representatives of Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young. In addition to the free assessment, participants will be eligible to win a $100 gift card and other giveaways.

The 10 a.m.-4 p.m. event is part of a Guides and Outfitters Weekend at the 7970 E. 49th Ave. location. Call 720-385-3600. Participants should attach a tag to verify method, date and location of take.

Sage grouse plan

Local working groups will play a pivotal role in a draft plan for conservation of greater sage grouse released Friday by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. The plan will be available for public review and comment until July 31.

“It is important that we have consistent goals in mind as we work at the local level to protect sage grouse habitat,” said Brad Petch, senior wildlife conservation biologist with the agency. Petch said the statewide plan identifies broad goals and acts as a bridge between local and national strategies for a bird whose numbers have declined steadily.

The plan is posted on DOW website, wildlife.state.co.us and at area offices, BLM field offices and public libraries in northwest Colorado. Comments should be made to pam.schnurr@state.co.us.
