Groundbreaking for a private motorcycle and auto-racing track near Byers in Arapahoe County could begin this fall, according to a release from the Colorado Amateur Motorsports Association (CAMA).

The proposed 2.5-mile, 15-turn road course would sit off U.S. Highway 36, 17 miles east of Byers and about 60 miles east of the Interstate 25 and I-70 interchange.

It would serve club members of various organizations who are being asked to raise $2.8 million for the first phase of the project, expected to be completed in a year.

“Significant events (have taken) the project to the point of being able to now share with you the details for the track and to launch the necessary capital campaign to push the High Plains Raceway to fruition,” the release says.

CAMA says the 460-acre property is under option and the zoning process is nearly complete, but county approval has yet to be granted.

CAMA has established a website for the track project: .
