Q: Is seaweed medicinal? I eat it in sushi and was wondering if it had any benefits.
A: Yes, seaweeds, which are considered algae, not plant life, are used in many foods, medicines and cosmetics, and have been used therapeutically for thousands of years. Seaweed is rich in iodine, so it helps goiters. Some holistic practitioners use seaweed to counter the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It’s also a natural antacid. Just don’t use too much wasabi.
