A Denver police officer and a bank robbery suspect were hospitalized after a foot chase Tuesday afternoon along East Colfax Avenue when they were both struck by an unmarked police car.

The chase began about 4:30 p.m., when First United Bank at 5901 E. Colfax Ave. was robbed by a man in his early 30s, said police spokesman Sonny Jackson. Two witnesses at the bank followed the suspect and directed police to a home he had broken into, Jackson said. The suspect then fled in a stolen vehicle, Jackson said.

Police followed the suspect’s vehicle down Colfax until he struck another vehicle and began fleeing on foot, Jackson said.

A uniformed officer chased the suspect on foot for about half a block when an unmarked police car hit the suspect and the officer. The officer and the suspect were taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, Jackson said. The suspect was arrested.
