FORT CARSON, Colo.—Four members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team have died after being attacked by insurgents in Iraq, the Defense Department reported Sunday.

The four, all California residents, were victims of an improvised explosive device in Baghad on June 28.

They were identified as Sgt. Shin W. Kim of Fullerton, 23, Sgt. Michael Martinez of Chula Vista, 24, Sgt. Giann Mendoza, 27, of North Hollywood, and Pvt. Cory Hiltz, 20 of La Verne.

Their deaths, first reported by the Gazette, bring the number of Fort Carson-based soldiers killed in Iraq to 212.

The death of a fifth soldier of wounds suffered in the same attack, Spc. Dustin L. Workman, 19, of Greenwood, Neb., was announced earlier.
