75, and going strong
Whatever happened to spending summer vacation flaked out on the couch, watching TV? The 75th anniversary Central City Flower Girls have plans that are much more ambitious: Leigh Armstrong will travel to Russia; Hilary Walker is going to hike through Slovenia. Rory Chang-Heung Grant has been invited to take part in a figure skating tribute show in Lake Placid, N.Y.; and Mary Bader is off to Alaska to work for Outward Bound. They and 16 others bound for college were presented Saturday night as the opening act for the Central City Opera’s 75th anniversary season. Read more about the Flower Girls at.

Tribute gala takes shape
A cocktail reception at Chuck and Dana Farmer’s Denver home served as the kickoff for the High Hopes Tribute Dinner starring comedian George Lopez, vocalists Smokey Robinson and Babyface, and music producer David Foster. The Sept. 29 event, benefiting the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, also honors attorney Steve Farber, founder of the American Transplant Foundation and a longtime member of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation board.
