Diana Ross may have been a Motown goddess, but she was a devil as a boss, according to a new bio. “Most of the time, Diana’s emotional outbursts were about things that really didn’t matter much to anyone but her,” writes J. Randy Taraborrelli in his “Diana Ross,” due out in September from Citadel Press. Those around the one-time Supreme were routinely asked to avoid eye contact with the diva. Once, Ross reportedly clubbed an airline worker with a hat box, unaware that the box contained a small dog.

Stella McCartney will co-host a virtual anti-fur protest next month in the online fantasy world known as Second Life. The weeklong protest will begin July 12 on a dedicated island in the computer-generated alternative universe, it was announced this week by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The island will feature stables, a lake, picnic tables and Linda McCartney mini-veggie-burger stalls. Like her late mother, McCartney is a supporter of animal rights. She doesn’t use leather or fur in her designs.

Los Angeles – Another concert by the South Korean pop star Rain has been canceled, disappointing fans who had reportedly flown in from Hong Kong and Tokyo. The Saturday night show at the Staples Center was called off “due to issues related to the show’s production,” according to a statement from Rain’s promoter, V2B Global, posted on the Staples Center website.

Sally Field really, really likes golf. Instead of merely watching the U.S. Women’s Open from the gallery, the Academy Award-winning actress tried playing, taking her first lesson on a practice hole at Pine Needles with renowned teacher and former LPGA star Peggy Kirk Bell. “I would go to all these locations and think … why don’t I play golf? People walk around and enjoy God, God’s gifts, the trees, so I think I’ve always thought I should have that in my life,” Field said.
