EDWARDS, Colo.—At least three suspected human caused fires burned in the mountains Tuesday, including one near a subdivision north of here that scorched 5 to 8 acres.
No evacuations were ordered as the fire burned in grass, brush, and pinon juniper in the White River National Forest, said David Boyd, a fire information officer with the Upper Colorado River Fire Management Unit. Three single-engine air tankers helped about 20 firefighters on the ground, with an additional 20 firefighters arriving Wednesday morning.
Boyd did not have a containment estimate.
“These grass fires, they burn fast, and they seem to go out fast, but they can kick up again,” Boyd said. “We’ll get in there and very carefully look for hot spots.”
Two other fires—one near Red Cliff and another near Aspen—scorched a quarter acre each.
With no lightning recorded in the area the past week, all three are suspected of being human caused, Boyd said.
