Investigators were searching Tuesday for suspects in the death of a 19-year-old man found with several gunshot wounds.

Shawn Rodriguez, 19, was discovered by his girlfriend and his sister Monday night at the Castlegate Apartments in the 7000 block of West 84th Way in Arvada.

Police ruled the death a homicide but don’t have a suspect, said police Cmdr. Gary Creager.

“We don’t believe there’s any reason for neighbors or the general public to be concerned about their safety,” he said. “There’s no indication to us that this is a random act.”

Rodriguez didn’t have any criminal record in Arvada, Creager said.

In December, he was sentenced to probation and community service on a charge of misdemeanor assault in Aurora, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records and Aurora police spokeswoman Shannon Lucy.

By early Tuesday afternoon, two residents filed notices to vacate the apartment complex because of the slaying, said Roberta Olmos, regional manager of ComCap Asset Management, which owns the apartments.

But the early lease terminations were rejected on the grounds that police believe the incident was isolated, she said.

“This was shocking for us,” she said. “When something like this happens, it really hits hard.”

Police are still looking for a motive in the slaying.

“We’ll investigate all possibilities,” Creager said.
