Alex Rodriguez hasn’t decided whether he will play Tuesday night in the All-Star Game or use the three- day break to rest his strained hamstring.
The Yankees slugger, who leads the major leagues with 28 homers and 80 RBIs, topped fan voting for the game in San Francisco with 3.89 million votes. He hurt his left hamstring Monday night when he tripped over Twins first baseman Justin Morneau’s ankle while beating out a potential double play.
“I told the guys I’ll let them know Saturday … but if I feel like this, probably not,” Rodriguez said Wednesday.
Red Sox: The team is making plans to return from the all-star break without Curt Schilling in the rotation.
The 40-year-old right-hander went on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis effective June 19, but the team had announced that he won’t pitch again until after next week’s break.
Dodgers: Randy Wolf, one of three Los Angeles starters with at least eight victories, went on the 15-day disabled list because of soreness in his left shoulder.
Mets: The team purchased the contract of catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. from Triple-A New Orleans and sent left-hander Jason Vargas to the minors.
Cardinals: Catcher Kelly Stinnett, outrighted by the team on June 28, decided not to report to Triple-A Memphis. The Cardinals also released right-hander Tomo Ohka, signed to a Triple-A contract on June 19.
Giants: San Francisco put left-handed reliever Jonathan Sanchez on the 15-day DL with strained muscles in his side and called up right-hander Scott Atchison from Triple-A Fresno.
Orioles: Baltimore purchased the contract of left- hander Garrett Olson from Triple-A Norfolk.
Royals: Designated hitter Mike Sweeney will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee today.
White Sox: Chicago optioned reliever David Aardsma, a Cherry Creek High alum, to Triple-A Charlotte.
