Tomorrow might just be your lucky day.
Saturday’s Vegas-themed anniversary bash at DC10 (940 Lincoln St.) is all about the lucky number 7, because the date (07/07/07) has people everywhere getting hitched, placing bets, and generally doing their best to take advantage of the triple sevens. At DC10, owner Kostas Kouremenos is counting less on luck than on hard work and good planning to keep his airplane-themed lounge flying high for another year.
“The first year has been really good, and in the beginning it was even better than I expected,” Kouremenos said. “I’m very happy right now. We had a big vibe right off because we have this very cool image and very different events. But now the newness has worn off, so it’s time to work on keeping it going.”
The weekly events keep the scene changing from night to night, and the club’s white décor, flat TVs, large projection screen and huge stage make for plenty of visual flexibility from night to night. Tuesday’s “Body Language” ladies’ night and the Saturday night “Destination” global theme parties are still part of the original lineup, and three new events are in the development stages, with separate promoters hoping to spread the word and build their own crowds.
Wednesday’s “Riot” party kicked off in June, bringing an edgy electro sound with DJs Michael Trundle (Lipgloss) and Peter Black (Rockstars Are Dead); on Thursdays, “Thrust” started slowly a few weeks ago and will officially launch on July 26 when Kevin Larson begins his sexy, theatrical stage events; Fridays brings “Status,” a new late-night elite hip-hop scene promoted by 3Deep Productions.
It’s a lot for your average cocktailer to keep track of, but Kouremenos is confident that the club kids can sort it out and find the right night to suit their mood.
“DC10 is built on an international theme and scene, and I don’t want to see the same culture here every night,” Kouremenos said. “Some of the nights need work, but they’ll build up, and I’d rather have quality over quantity when it comes to the crowd.”
For Saturday’s anniversary bash, think Vegas showgirls on stage, bikini-clad models serving up champagne and strawberries, and cake, sparklers and a midnight toast to mark the occasion. There’s no cover for the party, but bottle service is a must if you want to snag a space for lounging; call 720-771-3500 for reservations.
Mod Squad
It’s “mod art in a mod space” tonight at the Jet Hotel’s bar and lounge.
Art in the City, a monthly after-hours event that coincides with the First Fridays art walks, has become the hottest spot to end a night of gallery hopping. AITC provides an ideal gathering place for artists, art lovers, and night owls to convene, converse and continue drinking. After the galleries close up shop tonight around 10 p.m., head over to the Jet Hotel (1612 Wazee St.) for a no-cover art party featuring local artists (Sandra Fettingis, E. Trujillo Yoshi Saito and Melissa O’Dell are up tonight) and drink specials on Flying Dog brews and Pravda vodka cocktails.
Patriot parties
Celebrate the stars and stripes tonight at Rise Nightclub (1909 Blake St.), where the weekly Get Sexy Go Sexy dance party turns on the red, white, and blue for a special post-Fourth of July event. DJ Geoff mixes it up on the main floor, spinning Top 40, hip hop, ’80s pop and dance tracks, with DJ Tribal Touch throwing down club hits in the Shadow Lounge.
Over at Lannie’s Cabaret, (1601 Arapahoe St.) the patriotic pretties of Burlesque As It Was perform a classic WWII-era USO-style show tonight and Saturday. Only in this case, the “Stars and Striptease” performances keep the big band and swing tunes and leave the old-fashioned modesty at the door as the girls shake and shimmy all the way down to their red, white and blue skivvies. $20, 8 p.m., 303-293-0075.
