A mysterious white substance on Interstate 25 closed the highway southbound in Douglas County for several hours today.
The powdery substance was reported around 12:30 p.m., said Lone Tree deputy city manager Michelle Kivela.
Hazardous-materials experts were evaluating the substance but had not announced findings, Kivela said.
All lanes were reopened shortly after 4 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Southbound traffic had been diverted at Dry Creek and Arapahoe roads. The highway was officially closed between County Line Road and Lincoln Avenue.
“Luckily, the traffic hasn’t been as heavy as a normal Friday because of the holiday,” Kivela said.
