CORE VALUES

Denver sisters Lisa and Courtney Pugh love action sports like surfing and skating, snowboarding and skiing. But they got tired of hitting the slopes or beach in clothes that looked good but lacked functional design, or were serviceable but unstylish. So they took matters into their own hands and developed an online business,

that feature dozens of fashionable labels for athletes. The site also has such information as “Girls That Rip” athlete bios, training tips and fashion designer profiles.

WORKING OUT A NEW PLAN

Book lovers bemoaned the closing of the Tattered Cover in Cherry Creek North a year ago, but fitness and spa fans are going to welcome its replacement. Pura Vida Fitness and Spa, under construction at First Avenue and Milwaukee Street, will feature retail on the first level; reception and lounge areas, locker rooms, steam and other amenities on the second floor; and 5,000 square feet of cardiovascular and resistance training equipment on the third floor. The fourth floor will have sunlit yoga, Pilates and Kinesis studios as well as the full-service Nectar spa. J. Madden, president of Pura Vida, says he plans to develop additional Nectar locations in hotels and resorts. The spa will be open to the public; the club is membership-based. Pura Vida started taking priority reservations last week and is expected to open in January. Initiation is $700 for individuals and $1,000 for couples (a deposit of $150 or $200 holds your place); and monthly dues will be $150 for singles and $225 for a dual membership. More at.

JUST FOR KIDS

Exer-games like Dance Dance Revolution, below, and Xavix, child-friendly strength-training equipment and nutrition counseling are among the attractions at Kids Action Fitness which opens Friday as part of Club USA at 5066 S. Wadsworth Blvd. in Littleton. The center for children age 6-13 grew out of owner Rick Schliebe’s concern about childhood obesity and desire to educate kids about health and fitness. The monthly fee is $34.95, or an additional $10 per month when a parent is already a member of the club. More at 303-979-7772 or .
