Karen Wagner, the lone Democrat on the three-person Larimer County Commission, resigned today, saying she was a target of continuing verbal abuse and harassment from Republican Commissioner Glenn Gibson.
Wagner was sworn in as District 2 Commissioner in January 2005.
“I had high hopes and great expectations for serving the people of Larimer County,” Wagner said. But Gibson has fostered a hostile workplace that has chipped away at her health, Wagner said.
“Gibson’s menacing antagonism has made a rational and safe workplace impossible,” Wagner said.
Gibson said Wagner’s resignation and allegations surprised him.
“I treat people with respect, I always have,” Gibson said. “You have to have a pretty thick skin to do this job.”
The other Republican on the commission is Kathay Rennels.
