CENTENNIAL, Colo.—Denver Broncos wide receiver David Kircus was bound over to district court Thursday on a felony assault charge stemming from a fight at a party in this Denver suburb in May.

The fourth-year wide receiver is scheduled to be in court Aug. 21 to enter a plea.

During a hearing, Kircus’ accuser, Jeffrey Kreiger, 24, testified that he was punched in the face and suffered multiple fractures below his right eye.

“It was just a pop and a flash and I remember rolling on the ground,” Kreiger said.

Kircus’ lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, said his client never showed signs of aggression and described Kreiger as being drunk, suggesting he was the aggressor.

Kircus passed a lie detector test later in May, said Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan, and was allowed to stay with the team. Kircus also said he acted in self defense.

Kircus is a backup receiver and return specialist who joined the team last season. He had nine catches for 143 yards.
