Richard Belzer – author and character

Richard Belzer has a story to tell you – about a guy named Richard Belzer.

The 62-year-old actor-comedian has signed with Simon & Schuster to write two mystery books featuring himself as a TV performer caught in his own plot.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I will bring the world of show business, celebrity worship, sly social commentary and even ‘cameos’ by real celebrities into my literary adventures,” Belzer said.

The first book, “I Am Not a Cop,” will be published in fall 2008. | The Associated Press

Goldman’s own tell-all

“Did It” just might become “Confessions of a Double Murderer.”

That’s the title the family of murder victim Ronald Goldman was hoping to adopt for the O.J. Simpson never-published hypothetical tell-all – and it could happen, now that the Goldmans own the rights to the scuttled manuscript.

The Goldmans, who sued Simpson last year, accusing him of setting up a bogus corporation to hide his book proceeds from them, acquired the rights to “If I Did It” as part of a settlement reached with the court-appointed bankruptcy trustee who is in charge of Simpson’s Florida- based company, Lorraine Brooke Associates. | www.eonline.com

The Devil You Know by Mike Carey, $24.99

Normally I wear a czarist army greatcoat – the kind that sometimes get called a paletot – with pockets sewn in for my tin whistle, my notebook, a dagger, and a chalice. Today I’d gone for a green tuxedo with a fake wilting flower in the buttonhole, pink patent-leather shoes, and a painted-on mustache in the style of Groucho Marx. From Bunhill Fields in the east, I rode out across London – the place of my strength. I have to admit, though, that ‘strong’ wasn’t exactly how I was feeling; when you look like a pistachio-ice-cream sundae, it’s no easy thing to hang tough.”
