Flash-flood conditions in the Livermore area, northwest of Fort Collins, forced the closure of U.S. 287 south out of Laramie shortly after 4 p.m. today.
The highway, which was hit with heavy rain and hail and had water flowing across it, was reopened about an hour later.
Wyoming troopers assisted Colorado authorities in the closure as a safety precaution, said Wyoming Sgt. Stephen Townsend.
Severe thunderstorms, capable of producing heavy rain and large hail, had formed north and south of the metro area.
One storm was moving through the Larkspur/Monument area, traveling southeast at about 5 mph. Some flooding in smaller creeks was likely, according to the National Weather Service.
Another system was reported about 15 miles west of Sterling.
Hail the size of golf balls was reported in the Wellington area. Skylights and windows were broken, and residents were encouraged to stay indoors during the storm, away from windows.
