Sun Electric providing panels
Sun Electric Systems is supplying solar photovoltaic and thermal systems for a new affordable-housing development in Lafayette.
Eagle Place Townhouses will have 322 solar photovoltaic panels to power 60 housing units. The development is expected to use half the energy of comparable buildings and exceed Colorado Built Green standards by 250 percent.
The development also includes energy-efficient lighting, windows and insulation, integrated hot-water and furnace systems, and low-water landscape design.
Eagle Place, designed by George Watt Architecture and built by Shaw Construction LLC, is permanently deed-restricted for families earning less than 40 percent of the Boulder County area median income.
Steamboat resorts save water
Three Steamboat Springs resorts have earned certification in the Mt. Werner Water & Sanitation District’s new water-conservation program.
The Steamboat Grand Hotel and ResortQuest Steamboat have won silver certification, and Snowflower and Steamboat Gondola condos became the first gold winner.
Nearly 70 percent of water consumption in the district is from multiple-dwelling units such as condos, apartments, hotels and townhouses. The program encourages water conservation year-round but particularly in the high-use period of June through August.
