Getting your player ready...

The Colorado Rockies put left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 4, for a mild back strain.

Fuentes, the Rockies’ closer for most of the season, had 20 saves in 26 opportunities but blew four straight saves during a road trip and was demoted.

He last pitched July 3 against the Mets, retiring all three batters he faced, two by strikeouts. He could be activated from the DL on Thursday.

Fuentes, who has a 4.06 ERA in 40 appearances, was selected to the National League All-Star roster for the third consecutive year but did not play.

To take Fuentes’ roster spot, Colorado called up infielder Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Quintanilla was expected to be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.
