Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that engulfed a home in rural Douglas County.

Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman Dave Joly said the fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. A few small explosions accompanied the blaze, he said.

Ten people, some of them in wheelchairs and on oxygen, were in the house when the fire started. All of them got out safely, Joly said, but three were being taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The house is in the 11600 block of Conestoga Court, which is off Highway 86 near the Elbert County line. Firefighters from three jurisdictions attacked the blaze. Joly said the fire is believed to have started in the garage.
