Andrew Speaker, the tuberculosis patient at the center of a worldwide health scare in May, is undergoing surgery to remove part of his lung at University of Colorado Hospital in Denver today.
A hospital spokeswoman would confirmed he was having the surgery today.
Speaker, an Atlanta lawyer, is being treated at National Jewish Medical and Research Center after he was diagnosed with an extensively drug-resistent form of TB.
Later test showed the disease was multi-drug resistant, which is less severe as originally thought.
Speaker became the center of a firestorm after he went to Greece on his honeymoon after being told that his tuberculosis might be drug resistant and he was not to fly in commercial airplanes by health officials.
