Getting your player ready...

Word up, couch potatoes: It’s just bad form to leave a sprung sofa sitting at the curb, or in the alley, or, if you live in Boulder, on the front porch.

So save yourself the headache of driving around pop-top neighborhoods looking for a Dumpster in which to – completely unethically – deposit your dirty divan: Colorado State University hosts its annual Great Sofa Round-Up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Here’s how it works: People weary of their old couches – or who are moving on to greener pastures or smaller apartments – drop off their furniture in the visitors parking lot, north of Lake Street on College Avenue in Fort Collins. Other people who are hankering for, say, a huge brown sectional couch to fill the basement rec room can show up and take their pick. One sofa adoption per person, per day please.

Last year, more than 600 sofas were collected and more than half moved on to new digs during the event. Some of the leftovers were donated to a greyhound rescue group and the rest werecrushed and sent to the landfill.
