CANON CITY, Colo.—Fremont County plans to open its new jail wing soon.
Built two years ago, it has remained closed because of a lack of staff and funding.
This week Fremont Sheriff Jim Beicker got a federal grant that will allow him to open it by mid-September.
While the four-million (m) dollar new wing has remained closed, inmates have been sleeping on the floor at the overcrowded existing facility in Canon City.
