Denver and its surrounding communities are the healthiest metropolitan area nationwide compared to others the same size, according to a study released today.
But the study, done by the Metro Denver Health and Wellness Commission, also noted that area’s obesity rates are on the rise, with more than half the population overweight or obese.
“We are not ready to claim victory yet,” the study said.
Twenty-five metro areas were reviewed, including Austin, Texas, and Seattle, which came in near the top of the list.
Tampa, Fla., and Houston landed at the bottom.
Other factors considered in “Metro Denver 2007: A Report on the Health & Wellness of Our Community” were the percentage of adults without health care coverage and the percentage with asthma.
