So what if his ex Britney Spears tried – and failed – at the restaurant biz with her short-lived eatery, NYLA? Justin Timberlake (now comfortably linked with Boulderite Jessica Biel) recently threw his porkpie hat into the culinary ring with the opening of Southern Hospitality, a Memphis-style barbecue joint on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. On hand for opening night: Jay-Z, Lance Bass and Al Sharpton.
While we’re on the subject of J.T., reports say Timberlake had quite a list of dressing room necessities for the European leg of his Future Sex/ Love Show tour. Word is he can’t live without Hershey bars in every city. But most amusing was his need for anti-gas pills. Apparently Beano is hard to get in Europe so they have to plan ahead. Hey, whatever it takes to get through the set.
After 10 weeks of heated competition (and a heaping helping of scandal), San Diego’s Amy Finley was crowned The Next Food Network Star by Emeril Lagasse and Bobby Flay on Sunday night. Finey, who calls herself “The Gourmet Next Door,” had been bumped earlier in the competition but was reinstated after the withdrawal of tainted competitor Josh “Jag” Garcia. Garcia pulled out of the race after admitting to embellishing his career as a Marine cook; Garcia claimed he’d been deployed to Afghanistan, an assertion later disproved by reporter C. Mark Brinkley of The Military Times.
Although it’s been 35 years since she filmed that infamous scene with Marlon Brando and a stick of butter, actress Maria Schneider still hasn’t fully recovered. She told London’s Daily Mail, “Thankfully, there was only one take. (And) I never use butter to cook anymore – just olive oil.”
