The owner of two pit bulls could be ticketed for a number of violations after the dogs ran the streets of Arvada on Wednesday morning, biting three people and a puppy, said Arvada police spokeswoman Susan Medina.
An animal control officer responded to the 6700 block of West 51st Avenue just after 7 a.m. on a call of a person being bitten.
She saw the pit bulls running and called for assistance from animal control and police, Medina said.
Police shocked the animals with a Taser twice to subdue them. They were taken to the Table Mountain Animal Center, where they are being held.
The dogs bit a man, a woman, an animal control officer and a puppy who was being walked, Medina said. Police are not sure which dog bit which victim.
“It’s going to take a little while to sort it out,” Medina said.
The man and animal control officer suffered minor injuries. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was released.
The puppy was taken to a veterinary office; its condition was unknown, Medina said.
The owner was not home at the time, and police were investigating how the animals got out.
“We believe the dogs may have left through an open door,” Medina said.
The owner will probably face a number of violations including violation of the dangerous animal ordinance and leash law, Medina said.
The pit bulls will be held at the animal center until a judge decides what action to take.
