Schilling: Silence says all

Curt Schilling says that Barry Bonds’ and Mark McGwire’s refusals to address accusations of steroids use are tantamount to admissions. “If someone wrote that stuff about me and I didn’t sue their (rear) off, am I not admitting that there’s some legitimacy to it?” he said on HBO’s “Costas Now.” He added: “It goes to the Mark McGwire thing in Congress. I mean, I’m a huge Mark McGwire fan. But I just always thought it was very simple: If you did something and someone asks you if you did it and you didn’t do it, you say ‘no.’ Any other answer than no is some form of yes, isn’t it?” When asked about Schilling’s remarks before the Giants played the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night, Bonds responded, “Don’t worry, my day will come.”

Taking Beckham’s hand

British soccer star David Beckham is used to being a human billboard, but now the New England Revolution would like to make him a paid escort. Well, not exactly. It’s for charity. Fans can bid on eBay for the opportunity to walk onto the field hand-in-hand with the players in the starting lineups before the Los Angeles Galaxy’s Aug. 12 match against the Revolution in Foxborough, Mass. Proceeds from the auctions will go to the New England Revolution Charitable Foundation. As of 10 p.m. MDT on Wednesday, there had been three bids, with the top one at $1,225 – $225 more than the minimum. Minimum bids for other players: $250. There’s a catch, ladies: Player escorts must be ages 5-14. Bidding ends Aug. 2.

Rest easy, Milan fans: Kaka staying put

Kaka said he met with Real Madrid officials recently, although he has no intention of leaving AC Milan. “There was a meeting with Real, and Milan was the first to know about it,” Kaka said. “That’s it.” Kaka led Milan to the Champions League title with a competition-high 10 goals last season. He has a contract with the Rossoneri through 2011. “I see myself as a symbol of Milan, like (Milan president Silvio Berlusconi) said yesterday,” Kaka said. “The fans can remain calm.”
