Whatever floats your boat

Dragon boat races are colorful and exciting, but if that doesn’t float your boat, there were dozens of other reasons to attend the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival. “Edu-tainment” is the word organizers coined to describe the two-day event held at Sloan’s Lake Park, and guests could enjoy dancers and foods representative of several Asian countries, plus the opportunity to learn more about such nonprofit organizations as the Asian Pacific Development Center, Children of Peace International and the Chinese American Council of Colorado.

Plastic pups, furry friends

Fifty business owners and individuals let their creativity run wild when they decorated the Eero Aarnio plastic puppies for an auction that benefited the Downtown Animal Care Foundation. The sale was hosted by Jill Warner, a longtime dog lover and owner of Mod Livin’, 5327 E. Colfax Ave. The DACF helps low-income families whose pets need emergency treatment, spay and neuter services, and vaccines.

History comes alive

The time: sunset. The setting: the rooftop terrace of the ultra-modern Museum Residences that were designed by acclaimed architect Daniel Libeskind. The event: Party At The Edge, which gave the curious a chance to explore two units in this development overlooking another Libeskind masterpiece, the Denver Art Museum’s new Hamilton wing, while raising money for Historic Denver and the Golden Triangle Association.
