University of Denver defenseman Keith Seabrook, who tallied 13 points in 37 games as a freshman last season, has left the team to seek a professional career, coach George Gwozdecky said.

Seabrook signed with the major junior A Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. With the signing, he forfeited his remaining three years of college eligibility.

“Keith and his family felt the U.S. college hockey development model of practice and games combined with rigorous academics would not benefit his hockey career,” Gwozdecky said.

Seabrook scored two goals and added 11 assists last season and netted a minus-3 plus-minus rating. He was a 2006 NHL pick of the Washington Capitals in the second round.
