A Glenwood Springs police officer was shot in the chest late Sunday night while trying to question two males who were spotted walking around storage units at the airport.
The officer, whose identity was not released, does not have a life-threatening wound because he was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
Police said the officer attempted to stop the two men around 11 p.m., Sunday. The two men kept walking, despite repeated commands to stop.
One of the men then turned and fired a number of shots at the officer, hitting him once in the chest. The officer returned fire as the men fled.
A number of police departments have joined in the search for the two men, but no one has been found.
Police described the suspects as Latino males, about 18 to 20 years old. Both men had very short hair. One was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, lace-up boots and either jeans or dark pants. The other was wearing a dark blue or black-hooded sweatshirt, dark pants or jeans and white tennis shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Glenwood Springs Police Department at 970-384-6500.
