A teenage boy killed last week in an SUV rollover accident near Golden was identified today by the Colorado State Patrol.

Jared Johnson, 15, sustained severe head injuries and died on the scene, near the intersection of Colorado 93 and West 58th Avenue, according to the State Patrol.

Alcohol or drugs are suspected as a contributing factor, and toxicology results are pending, authorities said.

The other victims in Wednesday’s accident were Stephen L. Sweet, 20, the driver, and Jacob Payte, 18, a passenger.

All the victims were from Golden.

The trio were in a red, open-topped 1988 Toyota 4Runner that was traveling through tall, grassy terrain on Jefferson County Open Space. The vehicle hit a gully and flipped.

All three were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the Toyota, the State Patrol said.
