Boulder police have located the father of a boy found unconscious and without identification on the side of the road.

The boy was discovered about 11:30 a.m. today in the 3200 block of Kalmia Avenue. But because he had no identification, police asked the public for help in identifying him.

Boulder police spokeswoman Julie Brooks said the boy’s father called police this afternoon. Officers are making arrangements to take him to see his son, Brooks said.

The boy is at Boulder Community Hospital with head injuries, and, as of early this afternoon, he had not regained consciousness.

The child’s name and age are not available, but Brooks said earlier that he appeared to be about 12 years old.

Police believe the boy was riding an older model purple Huffy 10-speed bicycle with white-wall tires, and he was carrying a white “Michaels” bag with an unopened can of soda in it.

Brooks said police still don’t know how the boy suffered his injuries but said investigators may have only limited followup.

“We don’t have anything criminal,” she said. “We don’t know if it was an accident or if there was a medical issue.”
