DILLON, Colo.—The Eisenhower Tunnel on Interstate 70 recorded its busiest month ever in July, with 1.2 million cars and trucks passing through.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said Wednesday the previous record was 1.1 million vehicles in July 2006.

The 1.7-mile long tunnel is about 60 miles west of Denver at 11,000 feet above sea level. It’s 34 years old.

CDOT said 6.9 million vehicles have gone through the tunnel so far this year, 387,000 more than during the same period last year.
