Robert Daniels, the Arizona man with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, had his diseased left lung removed at University of Colorado Hospital on Tuesday.

The two-hour surgery had no complications, and Daniels is listed in fair condition, according to a statement today from the hospital.

The surgery was performed by John Mitchell, the hospital’s chief of general thoracic surgery.

Daniels, 27, will spend four to seven days at the hospital and then be transferred back to National Jewish Medical Center, where he is being treated for the difficult-to-treat TB.

In May, county health authorities in Phoenix obtained a court order to lock Daniels up as a danger to the public because he failed to take precautions to avoid infecting others. Specifically, he did not heed doctors’ instructions to wear a mask in public, they said.
