The clubhouse and leasing offices of a large apartment complex in Thornton caught fire early this morning.

Thornton firefighters were called out at 1:15 a.m. today to a fire at the Summit Apartments at 101 E. 88th Avenue.

The fire was limited to the unoccupied clubhouse, a one-story building that contains the pool room, leasing offices and other rooms.

Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly, said Deputy Fire Chief Larry Coapland, but the building was damaged extensively. The roof collapsed over one-quarter of the building and the rest of the building received heavy smoke and water damage.

No one was injured and none of the apartment residents were evacuated. The complex has 10 separate buildings with multiple apartments in each.

Coapland said an investigation into the cause of the fire was started at dawn.
