Authorities are looking for the girlfriend of a man whose body was found by a real estate agent showing a home two weeks ago in Jefferson County.

Colleen Barrett, 46, of Littleton has been missing since about July 18, said Jacki Kelley, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The body of Barrett’s boyfriend, 41-year-old Robert Alurac of Alaska, was found July 23 about 50 feet from a house for sale in the 8400 block of Scenic Drive, about 10 miles south of Morrison.

Barrett has blue eyes and brown hair. She is about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds, Kelley said.

On Saturday night, a man wanted for questioning in Alurac’s death was shot dead by a Douglas County SWAT officer at a Parker hotel.

Authorities have not released the name of the man police killed, and would not comment on how investigators connected that man to Alurac.

Anyone with information on Barrett or her whereabouts is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 303-271-5612.

Two bodies found in Highlands Ranch

Douglas County investigators were at a house where two bodies were discovered Monday evening.

The house is in the 8900 block of South Coyote Street in Highlands Ranch. Douglas County sheriff’s spokesman Ron Hanavan said the sheriff’s office received a 911 call just before 6 p.m. Monday that led deputies to the house.

Hanavan said detectives are treating the case as a “death investigation” and members of the public should not be worried for their safety.

Infrastructure plan gets initial approval

A $550 million bond and tax-increase package for infrastructure won initial approval Monday night from the City Council after Mayor John Hickenlooper presented the plan.

If it passes, voters will see nine separate questions, including a property tax increase of 2.5 mills and an eight-part bond package.

The council was unanimously in favor of seven questions, but Councilwoman Jeanne Faatz went against nine other colleagues present in voting against the mill levy increase and a cultural facilities package.

There will be a public hearing on the issue next Monday before the final council vote.

Hickenlooper’s appearance was just his third appearance before at the full legislative meeting since he took office.

Man gets 44 years for killing his wife

A man who pleaded guilty to killing his wife, even though her body has never been found, was sentenced Monday to 44 years in prison.

Frank Schilt pleaded guilty May 7 to second-degree murder in the death of Teresa Schilt, 51, whose body was dumped in a trash bin but never found. He admitted that he killed her on Feb. 25, 2006.

Police conducted an extensive search of area landfills to no avail.

Schilt, 54, had been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and attempted child abuse, but those charges were dropped in exchange for the plea.

Doberman’s owner kills attacking pit bull

A dog owner stabbed a pit bull to death at a Broomfield dog park last week after the pit bull attacked the owner’s Doberman, Broomfield police said today.

The incident happened the evening of July 30 at the Broomfield County Commons Dog Park on Sheridan Boulevard. Several witnesses told police that the pit bull twice attacked the Doberman. During the first attack, owners were able to separate the dogs, police said.

But the owners were unable to separate the dogs during the second attack, and the owner of the Doberman drew a pocket knife and stabbed the pit bull, according to police.

Both dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic, and the pit bull later died from its injuries, police said.

Widow’s suit claims cop killed spouse, son

The widow of Elias Santistevan, a man who killed their 5-year-old son and then himself a year ago today, filed a federal lawsuit Monday that claims a Denver police SWAT officer killed her husband and son.

Chanell Santistevan’s lawsuit says that the Police Department lied to the public about the shooting by saying her husband had killed their son, Deion, and then committed suicide.

The lawsuit contradicts an interview Chanell Santistevan gave last year in which she said her husband had threatened to kill himself and the child during the standoff. However, she blamed officers for storming the apartment too quickly during the negotiations, prompting her husband to react violently.

Denver police have said they only entered the apartment after they heard Elias Santistevan fire the shot that killed the boy.

The lawsuit says that when SWAT entered the apartment, they forced Santistevan to flee into the apartment bathtub with Deion and that he had left his gun outside the bathroom door.

“Both died from a single shot from a SWAT rifle bullet to their heads,” the suit says.
